The main role of the series compensation technology in distribution network is to improve the distribution irrational problems of voltage on distribution line and improve the quality of voltage. Due to the special nature of distribution network, the series compensation in distribution network mainly adopts the way of excessive compensation, but this will inevitably lead to ferromagnetic resonance and self-oscillation in motors. In order to address these issues, study a new compensation scheme combined with FACTS technology is important. At the same time, the cost of the series capacitor protection is high, studied a new protection scheme combined with the FACTS technology, which is beneficial to the widespread promotion of the series compensation technology.First, the series compensation technology can improve the line voltage, reduce line losses, improve line transmission capacity, the main role of using series compensation in distribution network is to improve the quality of the line voltage. In this paper, compared and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the current measures on managing voltage problem, then introduced unique advantages of the series compensation in improving the quality of the voltage, discussed the reasons of excessive compensation of series compensation in distribution network.Secondly, this paper analyzes the mechanism of ferromagnetic resonance caused by capacitor and transformer, introduced characteristics and required conditions of the ferromagnetic resonance, the ferromagnetic resonance phenomenon caused by the series capacitors and transformers was simulated by PSCAD simulation platform.Then, this paper describes the ferromagnetic resonance and self-oscillation of motor problems caused by the series capacitor and the conventional solutions. Combined with the development of FACTS, make a research on a new series compensation scheme, which can effectively prevent the occurrence of ferromagnetic resonance in the condition of improving the voltage quality; and verified the effectiveness of this scheme by PSCAD simulation software.Finally, this paper describes the protection scheme of series compensation, and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of conventional protection scheme. Combined with the development of FACTS, proposed a new protection scheme; and verified the effectiveness of this scheme by PSCAD simulation software.
