At present, China’s urbanization has entered a critical stage. Problems brought out by the rapid development continue to emerge. On the one hand, the highly dense urban construction model derived from urbanization development continues to devour the green space in the city, causing citizens’ living standard to deteriorate. On the other hand, as people’s living standard increases, people have growing demand for green entertainment space and are eager to have more comfortable living environment. As a linear green space integrating ecology, entertainment, aesthetics and economy and other functions, greenway can help make the intensive use of land in highly dense city and integrate the resources of nature and human landscape, thereby enabling green network system to permeate inside the city and promote the construction of green and livable cityThe visual quality of greenway landscape directly affects the utilization of greenway. Therefore, this paper is aimed to study the greenway networks of old and new city areas in the city of Hefei through using a variety of research methods to conduct scenic evaluation of the greenways of Hefei city. First, it carries out field study by choosing Huangcheng greenway, Binhu greenway and Kuanghe greenway to represent greenways of old and new city areas, making basic analysis on the current situation and collecting samples. Second, it applies scenic beauty estimation method to evaluate the quality of greenway sample in both new and old city areas. Semantic differential is also used to evaluate and analyze typical quality characteristics of the greenway network in new and old city areas, thus obtaining quantified perceived results of greenway scenic landscape. In the end, a multiple linear regression equation is made for the greenways of Hefei’s old and new city areas. Based on the equation, the author further compares and analyzes the greenway scenic quality of new and old city areas in Hefei city. Results show that the overall evaluation is quite good. Defectives are mainly in the scenic function of greenway, with some components to be improved. Improvement strategies are used to make up for the shortcomings. Feasible suggestions are made in the improvement and transformation of road system, green corridor system, node system, infrastructure system and signal system, and as well as issues which should be considered in future overall greenway planning.This paper uses literature review, field study, scenic beauty estimation method, semantic differential, contrastive analysis and other methods to evaluate and analyze the quality of scenic beauty in old and new city areas of Hefei city. The study findings are of referential significance to the improvement and optimization of the greenway planning and construction in the city of Hefei and it is also expected to offer theoretical support and concrete case reference to greenway planning and design in many other cities.
