Comparing with traditional GFRP tube concrete column and steel reinforced concrete column, the steel reinforced concrete filled GFRP tube composite column has great advantages because it possesses both strong points of the two structures. From the angle of manufacture, the steel reinforced concrete filled GFRP tube composite column has inherent superiority in aspect of manufacture; from the angle of mechanical characteristics, it can reduce the section size of columns with the premise of not cutting down the bear capcity so as to enlarge the factual space in buildings. It can also enhance the bear capcity and ductility basing on the method of constrainting concrete without changing the section size, and greatly increase the seismic capacity at the same time. In addition, the durability of structure has also been strengthened because of the material properties of GFRP tube.There are already some preliminary researches on mechanical property of the steel reinforced concrete filled GFRP tube composite columns, but taking the actual situation into account, scale effect can not be ignored. Researching on the influence of mechanical property brought by scale effect will be of great significance and further infuence.In order to finnish the subject of influence of mechanical property brought by scale effect successsfully, this paper chooses size of specimens, strength of concrete and thickness of GFRP tube as the research factors, using the method of finite element simulation with experiment assisted. The experiment designs and makes nine steel reinforced concrete filled GFRP tube composite columns, and analyze the influence brought by scale effect through data measured. Subsequently, build up the finite element simulation and do a lot of simulation to research on scale effect of the steel reinforced concrete filled GFRP tube composite column under axial compression with the premise that the model is reasonable.Main works of this paper include:1. Determine all parameters of the steel reinforced concrete filled GFRP tube composite column, design and make the specimens;2. Preliminary form the regularity of scale effect of three factors as size of specimens,strength of concrete and thickness of GFRP tube through observing the phenomenon and comparing curves of load-displacement and load-strain;3. Establish finite element simulation of the steel reinforced concrete filled GFRP tube composite column combining with parameters used in experiment by ANSYS, prove the accuracy of simulation through comparing the ultimate bearing capacity obtained bysimulation and experiment;4. Basing on the foundation of reasonable finite element simulation, determine all parameters of every model so as to do further researches on the three factors of size of specimens, strength of concrete and thickness of GFRP tube, get the influence on the size effect of the steel reinforced concrete filled GFRP tube composite column of three factors through comparing load-strain curve, ultimate stress and peak strain.
