Investigations On Typical Preventive Maintenance Methods Of Freeway Asphalt Pavement In Jiangsu Province

In Jiangsu, the maintenance projects have dominated in the highway engineering. Under this scenario, how to improve the roadway manangement efficiency, to optimize cash flow for maintenance investment, and to ensure a smooth and safety traffic flow become the primary tasks for the management and maintenance of Jiangsu highway.This research first reviewed the performance of flexible highway in Jiangsu and the application of the current preventive maintenance techniques. According to the requirements in Jiangsu’s 12th Five Year Plan, this study summarized the important achivements and experience of preventive maintenance projects in Jiangsu. To achieve the ultimate goal, the research focused on the following objectives:Propose a new preventive maintenance concept and maintenance technique, which is oriented to the current serviceability of Jiangsu highway. Develop a methodology to evaluate the preventive maintenance timing in terms of pavement rehabilitation and maintenance techniques. Determine the optimal timing of preventive maintenance for the highway engineering on the basis of pavement performance indices.Investigate the existing preventive maintenance techniques applied to the asphalt pavements. Analyze the possibility of those existing techniques to use in the highway projects in Jiangsu.Track the performance evoluation of the highways (e.g., Yanjing highway, Guang-Jing-Xi-Cheng highway, Lian-Xu highway, Hu-Ning highway, and Xi-Yi highway) which the preventive maintenance techniques were employed to. Provide the important technical documents for the practice of preventive maintenance techniques in Jiangsu.Conduct the cost-benefit analysis for the preventive maintenance projects in Jiangsu, and comprehensively evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the preventive maintenance techniques.
