With the continuous development of the city, the reconstruction and repairing of Chinese modern city small residence and its street blocks, the important historic buildings, has a significant role for the harmonious continuation of historical and cultural significance of the urban environment. In the reconstruction and repairing of Chinese modern city small residence and its street blocks, create the Genius Loci can be used as a standard to judge the value of the reconstruction and repairing of the historic buildings.In this paper, the transformation of the Genius Loci in the modification from Chinese small residence and its street blocks to the memorial place is the theme. First on the basis of theoretical analysis and other research sites, the Genius Loci is a cyclopedic significance of architecture and environment, place conversion is the common problem in the reconstruction and repairing of the historic buildings.Second, the cyclopedic significance of the Genius Loci is embodied to here in the commemorative buildings, to analyze how the spiritual conversion can be implemented through the physical level conversion as the media, which strengthens the home expression and the sense of identity of the place in the old buildings repair reuse, and creates the Genius Loci-commemorative significance. Finally, choose the "Pearl S. Buck Memorial Hall", which is the Celebrities’former residence in Nanjing University Campus and the "Nanjing Museum Of The Site Of Lijixiang Comfort Stations", which is located in a complex urban environment in residential street blocks as the main analysis of typical cases. Analyzing how the actual project use theoretical study to implement the transformation of the Genius Loci, and enhance the value of the historical commemorative place with creating a better urban environment.The paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the research part of the background and objects, as well as the meaning and methods of the study process, stressing the necessity for this study; the second chapter is the cognition of the basic theories, the definition of commemorative sites and the concept of public space, and clarify the relationship between the place, the Genius Loci and the contents of place; the third chapter analyzes cyclopedic spiritual conversion of the spirit of place; the fourth chapter express the theme of this paper-the analysis of the transformation of the Genius Loci of the commemorative significance, and explore how monumental spiritual significance can be implemented through the physical level conversion as the media. Analyze the implementation of the Genius Loci in the actual project by two typical cases, and finally how to promote the historical value significance in the place through monumental emotional expression. The fifth chapter is a summary of research and reflection.
