Optimal allocation of reactive power is not only the effective mean to improve the distribution network capacity, reduce network loss and ensure power quality but also serve an important role in improving the power system stability, especailly the stability of voltage level. With the rapid development of the electrical industry and the increase of the load of distribution system in china, the need for the reactive power is also increasing. The presence of reative power imblance between the power system and load may lead to severe problems, which include the voltage level reduction, power quality decline, power factor reduction and network loss increase. Therefore, reasonable reactive power compensation lay the foundation for the safe and economic distribution network operation and it also play a key role in provding people with safe and high quality electricity power. However, the shortage of reactive power in the most of the ditribution networks in our county will lead to great power losses and may even pose a threat to the stability of power system. Therefore, research on reactive power compensation of the distribution network is significant for the safe and economic operation of the distribution network. On the base of the analysis of reactive power compensation optimization and the actual situation of G city power distribution network, this paper establishes the model of reactive power consumption, proposes the practical method of reactive power estimation and defines the reactive power experience value and range of each components. It also established an economic model of reactive power compensation in distribution network, based on the establishment of investment model, O&M model, power loss reudcion model and voltage level reduction model. In the chapter four, two typical schemes of reactive power compensation in G city are proposed, based on the optimization of reactive power in distribution transformer and high voltage substation. At last, by using the economic model of reactive power compensation in distribution network, the comparison and selection of two typical schemes are given.
