Considering the 500kV Guyuan substation as the research object,6this paper analyses the feasibility installation series compensation device. The series compensation device for Guyuan substation is desinged.First, this paper analyzes the necessity of series compensation device. In west Inner Mongolia power grid power surplus. Zhangjiakou Bashang wind power has developed rapidly. Which brings chanllenge to the Hanhan~Guyuan~Pingancheng 500kV transmission line.The installation of series compensation device in the Guyuan substation can solve the above problems. Besides, the power flow of the Hengfeng-Wanshuang and HAN-GU are balanced. The transmission capacity of the lines has been significantly improved, and the transmission channels have been more utilized. What’s more, the series compensation device not only can improve the security and stability of North China grid but also can improve power supply reliability of Beijing Power Grid.Second, in this paper, the design of a series compensation system in Guyuan substation is calculated. Based on the calculation results of the power flow distribution, the thermal stability limit, and transient stability limit of the transmission channel in inner Mongolia, the economic model of the device is considered. The degree of compensation of the series compensation device is given. Compensation degree of Line Hanhu is 40% and Huping’s is 45% for the time being. In this paper, determine the position of highly resistance and series compensation device. Calculate the line of the short circuit current, power frequency current, and power flow. And the MOV are given reasonable estimates.Then, series of compensation system the required secondary protection system has carried on the comprehensive analysis and design. Including of capacitor unbalance protection, capacitor overload protection, MOV, platform flashover protection, bypass protection, protection of the subsynchronous resonance, clearance protection, jump line current, line jobs series compensated, triggering circuit protection monitoring, latch circuit, switching logic, fiber optic fault protection, protection of electrical protection, emergency protection design.The last series compensation system for the field test, verify the validity and practicability of the project.
