The rapid development of modern electronic technology has been boosting the research progress of electric power transmission and automatic control systems, the servo system is widely used in various fields, from traditional industrial agricultural production, to aerospace and military equipment industry etc, it has made great achievements in either field. As the complexity of application environment is increasing, well function of servo system is being more and more strictly required, under this circumstance, PMSM AC servo system came into being; however, permanent magnet synchronous motors has more variables and higher coupling degree, sensitive to the changes of load and system parameters, therefor the key point of improving system’s performance lies in the selecting of control strategies.This article firstly made a detailed analysis of the basic structure and the mathematical model of PMSM, discussed the principles and methods of vector control, selected id=0 control as the vector control in systems, applied space vector pulse width modulation to the inverter, set up a current speed dual closed-loop servo system. Then, this article put forward an utilize structure variable control strategy for the lack of anti-disturbance capacity problems during system operating progress, analyzed its basic principles and design methods in depth, established the velocity and position loop sliding mode observer, simulated and studied it in MATLAB/Simulink, compared the simulation results with PI control and analyzed, thus verifying the operability and performance’s superiority while sliding mode control applied to the servo system.Finally, countered sliding mode structure control’s ubiquitous chattering problem, the article analyzed the causes, put forward the improving strategy, built a simulation model. The result shows that the improved sliding mode controller can effectively control the inherent chattering problem, improve the robustness of the servo system, and meet the requirements of high-performance servo systems.
