Modern rammed earth as a kind of improved traditional building materials, retained the original ecological value, overcame the deficiency of traditional rammed earth on mechanical and durable properties, has been widely concerned and supported by architectural institutions in China and abroad. The construction system of modern rammed earth are very mature in some foreign countries, they not only have many rammed earth architecture building, but also the construction process itself are already standardized, and even into the factory prefabrication stage. But in China, modern rammed earth construction research has just started, so gradually establish a systematical modern rammed earth theory and through the construction practice to complete the modern rammed earth building vocabulary is particularly important.As Xi’an University of architecture and technology carried out a large number of modern rammed earth practice and achieved certain results these years, the school intends to build a Contemporary Raw-Earth Architecture Laboratory in the Yanta Road Campus of the University. The project aimed to satisfy the needs of multidisciplinary team in a series of basic research, the entity set up test, technical training, the results show, international exchanges, and professional teaching.Against this background, my thesis is aimed to complete the architectural design process of the factory area in the Contemporary Raw-Earth Architecture Laboratory, to explore the potential of rammed earth wall with other structure, then reconsidering the conclusion, work out an architectural design method when the new construction materials occur in an architectural design. The thesis used the methods of the data collection, the practice test, the comparative study and comprehensive analysis, from the introduction, basic research, preliminary design, structure design and conclusion the five chapters study in turn.First, in the introduction and basic research section, through the analysis of the requirements, conditions of project and related case, determine the design principles and design strategy. In accordance with the design strategy, use of the existing modern rammed earth technology and portal frame technology as the core of design, that is use the portal frame as the main skeleton structure, with modern rammed earth wall as a retaining structure, with a box of box block relation logic to create suitable and smaller office space in the workshop of large space, and put forward the structure strategy and determine the structure system. Secondly, in the preliminary design and structure design research section, through the building function, space, form, structure and equipment of multi-factor interaction design, comparing many schemes, based on the design principle, determine the scheme of architectural design. And cast-in-site concrete with steel structure, rammed earth wall, three different structure system for clues to complete structure design. Finally, in the conclusion section, based on the design principle, determine the narrative description and quantitative analysis of two kinds of evaluation method, and evaluates the part of building comfort, materials and economy.My thesis based on the whole design process of Contemporary Raw-Earth Architecture Laboratory, showed the constructive vocabulary of modern rammed earth in combination with other building materials, offered reference for the rammed earth construction in the future.
