The vibratory roller is widely used in compaction of the subgrade and pavement materials, which is one of the largest energy-consuming equipments in the process of highway construction. Researching roller energy saving technology can not only reduce the energy consumption and the cost during the pavement construction greatly, but also improve market recognition of production. The paper regarded energy saving rollers XS203 J as research objects, and analysesd the energy saving technology and the energy saving effect of two energy saving rollers.First of all, the paper expressed the background and the value of energy saving of engineering machinery, and gave an introduction of the common ways of energy saving and the vibratory roller’s research process. The research of vibratory rollers in this paper mostly covered the engine, the hydraulic system and the vibration system. For engine energy saving technology, it introduced common-used electronic injection, high pressure common rail and so on. And also, it analysed the energy saving effect of the low-speed engine of the XS203 J. By analyzing the results, low-speed engine was better than high-speed engine both in dynamic and energy saving.In terms of the hydraulic transmitting system, the paper mainly introduced the techniques of load sensing, pressure cut-off and throttle which were used by saving roller of XG. By means of analyzing, we could know that using these techniques solved energy loss caused by overflow fever in hydraulic transmitting system efficiently, and increased the service life of hydraulic components to some extent.the passage demonstrated in detail through theoretical calculation the change in vibration power of the roller after optimized its vibration system and mass ratio of boarding and alighting. And it also simulated to vibrating steer through infinite element, in order to study the influence to structural strength of the vibrating steer caused by optimization to the mass ratio of boarding and alighting. During the process of studying the polarization and shimmy amplitude un-uniformity, the passage analyzed through theoretical calculation the reasons caused these phenomena and the feasibility of the center of three-in-one combination.Finally, based on these studies, we test to the two single steer roller of XS203 J and XS202 J, in order to contrast and analyze the actual energy-saving effect and operational performance of XS203 J which equipped with low speed engine and optimized energy-saving. According to the experimental results, the new generation energy-saving roller, XS203 J has around 17.8% reduction in fuel consumption and about 8.43% increase in working efficiency. Furthermore, we also found XS203 J had improved at certain degree in cushioning and compaction performance.
