Compared with ordinary bearing sliding bearings,floating ring are widely used in automotive turbochargers, internal combustion engines and gas turbines, with its special advantages,such as double oil films, small size, simple structure, low wear, high efficiency, good stability, easy to manufacture, low cost, etc. The demand on the speed of floating ring is much higher on the engineering, which is to a large extent affected the stability of the floating ring. The research on the characteristics of the floating ring bearing is mainly rely on the empirical data.And the coupling characteristics of the floating ring have inner and outer double-layer oil films which increases the difficulties in the research, thus lack of accurate system model to study in details. Therefore, in this paper a study of the effects of the oil film pressure distribution, journal speed and feed oil pressure on the static characteristics of the floating ring based on the modeling and simulation of the floating ring.The lubrication static characteristics of the floating ring were investigated by using CFD method in this paper. Comparing to the traditionally simple solutions for solving the Reynolds equation(simplified NS equation), the CFD software FLUENT can solve the full NS equations by using the finite volume method. And it is easier to process the unknown boundary region, and solve the complex structures of the bearing models. Moreover the static properties of the floating ring lubricated bearings can be analyzed with higher accuracy.The dynamic mesh model is developed for the lubrication of the floating ring bearing by using the Gambit, and the model is simulated using FLUENT solver and its UDF interface. Therefore, t the inner and outer oil film pressure distribution can be obtained under different conditions, and analyzed the effects of feed pressure and journal speed on the static lubricating characteristic, such as side leakage, temperature rise, speed of ring, change of the clearance. It is concluded that a high feed pressure could increase the floating ring rotation speed and the discharge of oil film end, and the increasing of shaft speed can improve the discharge temperature and oil film pressure distribution on both the internal and external value.For the floating ring bearings with double film worked at the high-speed, it confirmed the test parameters of the floating ring bearings based on the model simulation and theoretical analysis of the oil film, and designed a system to measure the three-dimensional film so as to provide a reference for the accurate measurement of the pressure film.
