For the past few years, with the rapid development of distributed generation technologies, micro-grid technology, as the main usage of large-scale distributed generation, is given great cause for concern by a number of universities and research institutes. Micro-grid central controller (MGCC) is a very important equipment in micro-grid system, which is responsible for the supervisory control and data acquisition of micro-grid. Apart from these, it plays a great role in islanding detection, operation mode changes and low-voltage and low-frequency load shedding. The MGCC ensures the security and stability of micro-grid and ultimately maximizes economic and social benefits of the micro-grid.This paper focuses on the hardware and software design of the device and the control strategies of micro-grid central controller are also introduced.First Part:something about functions and strategies. Firstly, We give a brief introduction of the development and study of micro-grid at home and abroad. The functions, that MGCC should be included, are listed and analyzed; Secondly, the communication architecture, communication model and stipulation of an agreement used in micro-grid are especially described. A detailed analysis of the EC61850 technology and its application in the micro-grid central controller, such as the GOOSE communication, ICD document for micro-grid central controller and so on, are also given; Finally, according to the functions of the micro-grid central controller, we made a detailed analysis of the various strategies to achieve the functions talked above.Second Part:something about how to design the device. The development of hardware and software systems of the micro-grid central controller device have been described respectively, and in the final of the paper, the relevant functions of the device were verified. Firstly, the design and implementation of the hardware platform are introduced carefully, especially including a detailed introduction of the central processor selection, hardware system architecture, communication module circuit; Secondly, relying on the hardware platform, software platform has been designed; The approach and steps of how to transplant μC/OS-II, the embedded operating system, to the hardware platform, are introduced. And based on the embedded operating systems, the related software modules were developed. Finally, relying on the trial project of SEU-EleFirst, the communication function and control strategies of the MGCC were tested and verified. It turns out that the MGCC works well.
