The concept of design for safety is based on the perspective of project life-cycle, considers construction personnel safety and health during the design phase, aims for improving construction safety and constructability though design regularly and optimally, thus reduces the occurrence of accidents. Referring to the existing research achievements at home and abroad, This paper made use of accident-causing theory, knowledge base theory, secondary development technology of BIM, computer programming technology, etc. The research contents of this paper are as followed:First of all, from the perspective of the cause-and-effect relationship of accident, using the Cause and Effect Theory and Trajectory Intersection Theory, analyzes the relationship between construction safety accident and engineering design, reveals the cause of accident towards the engineering design stage.Secondly, based on the analysis of related standard clauses, literature, cases, FTA and constructability, taking constructability and construction safety into account, carries out the safety risk identification towards the engineering design stage, eventually form a risk list related to the design work. Then, under the guidance of Accidental Release Energy Theory, gets the pre-control measures of building construction safety accident based on DfS, and further matches the risk with pre-control measures. It provides a significant method for the pre-control of building construction safety accident based on DfS.Thirdly, this paper builds the pre-control knowledge base of building construction safety accident based on DfS to store the knowledge of risk, measures and damage by Microsoft Access 2007 database, designs the structure of knowledge storage table and the relationship between tables, and compiles the query algorithm with SQL language to realize output and employment of the knowledge in knowledge base,.Finally, applies all above theoretical results, puts forward two kinds of method to utilize the knowledge base. One approach is through the use of model checking and analysis software Solibri Model Checker to check the security risk of construction automatically. And second, based on secondary development technique of Revit, by virtue of Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Visual Studio, uses C# programming language, this paper proposes a method that can convert DfS knowledge in the knowledge base to computer language which Revit can identify so that to discern security risk of construction automatically. The starting point of these two methods is to review the BIM model, then discerns security risk of construction automatically, in order to take design pre-control measures rapidly and efficiently, eventually to pre-control the construction safety accidents and ensure the safety of construction. At last, a specific instance demonstrates the feasibility of the two methods.
