In order to improve the passive safety of one car, based on the drawings the manufacturer provided, using Catia software to simplify the car’s 3D model, and with finite element analysis software co-simulation analysis car body stiffness and vehicle collision safety. As a reference of improving the structure of the vehicle, to shorten the development cycle of the vehicle and reduce the research and development costs.Firstly, analyzed the car collision safety regulations and the research status both in China and abroad, formulated the research route. Masted the theoretical basis of linear finite element method and nonlinear finite element method. Import the simplified 3D model of the body and vehicle into the finite element analysis software ANSYS Workbench and HyperMesh respectively, pre-processing the finite element model, complete the construction of the vehicle body’s and the vehicle’s finite element model.Secondly, the car body’s stiffness is the most basic reference index of evaluation the vehicle meets the requirement,in the ANSYS Workbench software applied the corresponding constraint and load on the generated vehicle body finite element model, analysis the stiffness of the vehicle body bending and twisting working condition. Compared the stiffness with the same type of car abroad, obtaining the analysis results.Thirdly, on the basis of the finite element model for vehicle, import the finite element model of 100% positive rigid wall, 40% overlap deformable barrier and lateral movable deformable barrier respectively, and adjust the location of the vehicle and barriers, set up the rigid ground, gravitational acceleration, velocity, acceleration sensor, control parameters,etc, then exported the K file and submitted it to the ls-dyna solver to solve, and analysis the result file of the process of the vehicle collision deformation, effectiveness of collision, acceleration, intrusion measurement,etc.Finally, analysis the collision simulation results it is concluded that in the front of the car lack of energy absorption, increase energy absorption components in the front of the car, and analysis the vehicle front 100% rigid wall collision simulation. Energy absorption components in the whole process of collision absorbed energy, the vehicle acceleration peak value decreases, and the invasion value of the dash panel reduces, increase the safety of the vehicle collision.
