Nowadays, the number of vehicles is increasing rapidly. As a result, traffic accidents and casualties increase sharply. In order to enhance passive safety of vehicles and decrease the number of casualties, the structure of vehicles need to be studied during design stage. This thesis firstly presents a numerical simulation to study the frontal impact crash. Hypermesh and Ls-Prepost is used as the preprocessor and postprocessor while LS-DYNA is used as a non-linear finite element code. Establish regulation of frontal impact vehicle model was studied, and then a frontal impact vehicle model is established. At the same time, some problems such as mesh, material select are discussed. Then we set the simulating process parameter in vehicle frontal impact crush simulation; actualize vehicle frontal crush simulation according to the regulation. The results in the simulation are compared with those in the experiments; it testified the accuracy of vehicle frontal impact crush model. At last, I improve the component which is weak in energy absorption. It is mainly about the cross section, thickness and cross section constrained. Finally, we find out a high energy absorption thin-wall component. The conclusion of this paper is referenced to other vehicle frontal impact crush simulation. It is also good for vehicle body design.
