Considering the unreasonable distribution of coal resource in China, and the coal market is lack of transport capacity, the anthracite coal burner in a power plant with two 135 MW units has to be reformed to be adapt to bituminous coal. However, the original designation of the boiler is only for the specific anthracite coal, the security and economy will be affected because of the alteration of coal characteristics. Therefore, this paper make some researches on the possibilities of the reformation in order to improve the coal adaptability, cut down the generating cost, reduce pollutant emission.At first, this paper compare the designed coal to the to–be used bituminous coal, which found the original design anthracite coal’s volatile was 10.6%, net calorific value was 22285.1 kJ / kg, while the bituminous coal’s volatile was 37.54% and the net calorific value was 20500 kJ / kg. according to the differences, the boiler has to be reformed to be adapted to the new bituminous coal.Secondly, Using heating calculation theory to analysis the safety and feasibility of the reformation, the volume heat load of the funeral before the reformation is about 140.33 kW/m3, and after the reformation is about 142 kW/m3. the original efficiency of boiler was 88.97% and the estimated efficiency after the reformation would be 91.07%, according to the calculation results, the reformation is possible. In order to prevent the explosion of coal powder system, about 8.5% ~ 10% of the hot smoke gas should be used in the pulverized system, the fineness of coal powder needed to increase from 9% to 23%, the primary air temperature needed to reduce from 264℃ to 160℃.At last, based on the calculation on above, the reformation project had been confirmed. All of the pulverized system, burner, economizer, superheater, reheater, blowing dust device were reformed, and according to combustion experiment results, the reformed boiler’s efficient was about 91.53% and other indexes reached the design requirements.
