Wetlands, as so-called ‘kidney of the earth’, work as critical spaces between nature system and human society. They are not only parts of the system of nature, but also provide varieties of supporting functions to cities.Urban ecological restoration is to repair nature systems that have been destroyed by artificial means, which does good to city safety and environment. Wetlands, located in and around cities, are easier to be influenced by artificial contaminant, their ecosystem is often destroyed and incomplete and cannot self-restored. So they have to take the aid of repair design by human so that they can have a complete structure and ability of self-circulating. Moreover, in order to improve their ability to withstand invade from the city, they must be wild and self-recovered, which are called artificial half-wild wetlands. The object of this study is the pattern of edge space design between city and wetland. Compared with other part of the wetlands, edge space is influenced by not only nature biology, but also city and human activities, which means it has to transmit disturbance and control them. As edge space of wetlands usually has complex environment and rigor design basis, if it is not well-designed, it may cause huge threat and harm to the ecosystem, hence, urban design of edge space of wetlands need to not only comply with the basic requirements of urban ecological restoration, but also focus on the relationship of human and nature, harmonizing wetlands’ eco-functions with city.On one hand, with the background of urban ecological restoration, the thesis classifies the factors of edge space design into two parts from ecology and shape perspective and study the relationship between them. On the other hand, the thesis analysis the targets and principles of edge design and its signifance. Based on the case of the Dongsha River wetland of Beijing and urban wetlands of Zhangjiakou, the thesis conclude a series of design patterns for edge space design of artificial half-wild wetlands...
