Wetland, as one of the world’s most important ecosystems, has widely distributedaround the world. It has extremely rich biodiversity and provides habitats for manywild animals and plants. It can improve environment, clean water source, adjust rainand flood and has many other ecological functions, so it is generally described as “thekidney of the earth”. For human beings, wetland is the most important livingenvironment, as well as one of the most significant environmental capitals. Wetland isalso the basis to establish and develop hydraulic civilization and aquatic civilization. However, with the growing process of urbanization, the rapid growth of urbanpopulation, and the desire for quick success and instant benefits to economicdevelopment in recent years, a large area of natural habitats has been destructed, which directly leads to a reduction of urban wetland areas and even the loss of urbanwetlands. Therefore, ecological function of wetlands disappears and existing urbanwetlands stand unprecedented severe challenges. When the twenty-first century comes, as more and more people have paid theirattention to environmental protection, issues about urban wetlands have been putforward again. Construction of urban constructed wetlands is the priority among them, because it can not only alleviate environmental pressures brought by urbanization, butalso protect existing urban wetlands.Urban constructed wetlands have increasingly wide applications. They can beused in parks, tourist resorts, urban green spaces, public green spaces on both sides ofurban main roads and even some residential areas. Therefore, discussing how to createan constructed wetland landscape which combines ecological effect, landscapeaesthetic value and economic value is meaningful from the viewpoint of landscapedesigners, both theoretically and practically. At present, the majority studies on wetland have focused on wetland protection orwetland plants whilst have paid less attention to the design of urban constructedwetlands. This paper just aims at the construction of urban constructed wetlandlandscape, proposing a very set of theoretical and methodological principlessystematically. Through searching a lot of literatures, combining with field surveys, analyzingand researching design cases comprehensively, discussing the conception, thedistributed pattern and the basic structure of the urban constructed wetland andjudging by landscape aesthetic principles, this thesis explains the design principle, thetheoretical basis and the design method of the urban constructed wetland, summarizeskey methods of its space layout, topography, water environment, water shoreline, plant configurations and constructed facilities, demonstrates the aforesaid studies incombination with years of design cases of urban constructed wetlands and finallysums up methods about the design of urban constructed wetland landscapes. It alsoanalyzes current problems existing in urban constructed wetland landscapes and lookto the future development of urban constructed wetland landscapes.According to such studies, the urban constructed wetland landscape can beunderstood more clearly and thoroughly and designed in a better way, which couldthus serve the development of the urban constructed wetland landscape in a furtherstep.
