Partial embedment of projectile into metal target is one of modes of interaction of projectile impacting target. Particular effects could be realized by the partial penetration of projectile. Based on the dimensional theory, low-velocity gas gun experiments, material microscopic experiments and numerical simulation methods, similarity of partial penetration of projectile onto metal targets and characteristics of partial penetration were carried out..Based on dimensional theory, gained partial penetration ballistic characteristics of the main control parameters, and the projectile penetration location parameters such as similarity criterion, and to determine the geometric scale ratio and the similar material simulation required to meet the conditions of similarity; According to the elastic characteristics of target material and target function conditions, the proposed similar geometric scale ratio model and materials testing scheme.Verified by partial penetration of gas gun experiments, the geometry and the similar material simulation.
