Projectile mass loss is an important factor affecting the performance of penetration, mass loss has not been considered in earlier studies, but in high-speed penetration, this effect cannot be ignored. So the study about mass loss will be very necessary, it not only helps to better understand the mass loss theoretically, but also provide a reference in projectile material selection and shape design in the future.In this thesis, mass loss is studied by combining theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. By introducing the perturbation theory and considering the effect of change on the nose of a projectile as well as mass loss, the motion of the projectile will be analyzed. The meshless target and the element deletion technology are used in the numerical calculation, thus calculating and analyzing the result of the mass loss.By introducing the perturbation theory, we can get the expression of velocity including the change on the nose of a projectile, and then we analyze the motion of projectile, the mass loss is obtained by the further calculation of the motion of projectile. It is showed that the mass loss agrees with the experimental results. This thesis further discusses the effect of the nose change and the mass change of a projectile on the projectile’s motion, and put it into the abrasion model to get the mass loss. The calculational results of mass loss agree well with the experimental results.This thesis has also discussed the effect of friction on mass loss, and has found that the friction cannot be ignored.
