With The development and in-depth inquiry of new energy, photovoltaic power is more and more widely used in people’s life, many photovoltaic power plants are growing up gradually, especially in the Qinghai province which is possess of abundant solar energy resources, Qinghai Province is at the Tibet Plateau, a vast territory with a sparse population, solar radiation strength,light shine for a long time, temperature is very high, It’s annual total radiant quantity ranked second in the country, with numerous 10 MW and more large and medium-sized PV power station, Qinghai Province is the most one of the focus areas of the national photovoltaic power generation enterprises.Photovoltaic power generation system composed of PV array, combiner box,inverter transformer, PV array can transform solar energy into direct current and then send to the junction box. After be reversed, it is send to the power grid or supply to the users. Assume the DC cable fault occurs. Many electricity cannot carry out. It must be bring huge economic losses for the Photovoltaic power generation company,it also have great negative impact on the safe and stable operation for the power system. Therefore, the staff must be checked the location of the fault points as soon as possible. So that the power system return to normal, but the DC cable is in a wide range, find the fault point waste time and energy.On these issues, this paper according to the ZR-YJV22 types DC cable which is used widely in Golmud photovoltaic power station. After research and analysis for the two-phase short circuit fault and single phase resistance grounding fault which is occurs most, we simulate the types of cable fault location simulation experiment in Matlab using traveling wave method. And the simulation results shows that it’s effective of the transmission fault simulation model of photovoltaic DC power. The simulation experiment shows that the fault location can meet the position requirements.
