Mo Bozhi is one of the representatives of the Lingnan architectural school. The research on esthetics of architecture of Lingnan architect Mo Bozhi is part of the the research contents of National Natural Science Foundation of China-- Research on the Realistic Design Theory and its Development of Lingnan Architecture School.Mo Bozhi is an outstanding architect of the Lingnan architectural school, and he pays much more attention to the architectural aesthetics than others. Mo Bozhi’s thiking in architectural aesthetics is reflected in his architectural practices showing a lot of attention to the management of intangible space experience and architectural artistic conception, which allows him to break the confinement of the existing architectural style and makes different styles interlinked both in space form and spirit, and unifies the traditional and the modern architectural culture, the East and the West architectural culture together harmoniously.Mo Bozhi’s architectural works reflect the essence of regional characteristics of Lingnan architecture. This paper using the architectural aesthetic theory of "regional cultural characteristics" and from three dimensions:the characteristics of regional technology, social spirit of the age, and the character of arts and humanities, analyzes Mo Bozhi’s main architectural works,and studies Mo Bozhi’s architectural thoughts.Taking other scholars’ research findings as a refernece, by an interdisciplinary comprehensive research method conbining the architectural science of history and architectural aesthetics, and from the aspect of architectural aesthetics, this paper analyzes the deep reasons why Mo Bozhi’s architectural works present the unique characteristics of Lingnan architecture, and further analyzes and interprets Mo Bozhi’s architectural works, hoping to enlighten the architecture theory and practice in the present. Its fundamental goal is to analyze and summarize the characteristics of adaptability in Mo Bozhi’s architectural aesthetic thoughts.First of all, this paper combs the origin of Mo Bozhi’s architectural aesthetic thoughts. From three aspects, respectively Lingnan culture spirit, modernist architecture trend of thought and architectural expressionism, Mo Bozhi’s architectural concepts and the origin of architectural aesthetic thoughts are exproed. Besides,the research based on three dimensions of theory of " cultural regional characteristics" explores Mo Bozhi’s architectural aesthetic thoughts:Firstly,through discussion on how Mo Bozhi’s architectural works responded to issue of climate and environment from the dimension of the characteristics of regional technology, it can be seen that he adapted to the natural view of environment, which is the basis of Lingnan style reflected by his architectural works;Secondly, through analysis of Mo Bozhi’s architectural works and study on his treatises from the dimension of social spirit of the age,it can be concluded that he adapted to the social outlook on epoch, and due to his inheritance of traditional architecture and learning of the new architectural theory and technology, his architectural works reflected social spirit and adapted to the social trend, which is also the fundamental driving force for the continuous development of Mo Bozhi’architectural creation and theory.Third, through analysis of Mo Bozhi and his architectural style shown by his works from the dimension of the character of arts and humanities,it can be found that the formation of style of the architect and architectural works lies in the architect’s own cultural attainments and humanistic quality,and it is the realization of the architect’s aesthetic ideal, reflecting Mo Bozhi’s architectural aesthetic thoughts adapted to the cultural perspective of humanism.
