Dehumidification has been playing an increasingly important role in industry and agriculture as well as our daily lives. Dehumidification system with desiccant wheels has several advantages, such as large amount of dehumidification, stable control for dew point temperature, simple and compact structure, durable quality. Therefore, the air dehumidification system with desiccant wheels has gradually replaced the cooling dehumidification system in many applications where air humidity is a key factor needed to be controled. The desiccant wheel is the core component in the air dehumidification system of desiccant wheels. Its material performance influences the capacity of the entire dehumidification system a lot. By one step preparation process, the modified-silicon compound material was prepared. In this essay, the effect of sodium silicate and ZnSO4 concentration, PH value of solution, reaction time and temperature on the dehumidification performance were studied. Then the properties of the material were characterized by various methods in detail.The thickness of the wheel, the volumes flow rate of process and regenerative air, the regeneration temperature and the speed of wheel rotating were simulated by a two-dimensional double diffusion model to provide guideline for designing and optimizing of rotary dehumidifier.The final goal of my research in this thesis is to design and assemble a wheel dehumidifier with compact structure, low regeneration temperature and excellent performance. After a series of calculation, each part of the wheel dehumidifier has been purchased and assembled together. The performance of assembled dehumidifier was investigated. The result indicated that the best efficiency of desiccant rotary wheels was 76.9% under the moderate humidity condition of 60%-80% RH.The performance of homemade wheel dehumidifier is better than the one in the market after comparison of dehumidification efficiency(homemade: 75.0% Market: 52.5%), moisture content after the dehumidification(homemade: 3.39 g/kg Market: 6.81 g/kg) and air dew point(homemade:-1.36°C Market: 8.22°C).
