In complex topography site conditions, the planning and design of residential area is often restricted by the vertical design of residential area, of which the grading level and the earth volume calculation is of great significance to the total plane layout and engineering investment budget. It is an urgent issue to master how to achieve the integration of space and architectural design, improve the level of urban planning and the level of site design in architectural design industry, and then to find out the best solution to the vertical design of the site under complex topography site conditions.This paper based on the analysis to the domestic and foreign research present situation conducts a study on the essential design points of residential district site vertical design under complex topography site conditions, the optimization of vertical flat grading level and the optimization of earth volume calculation under the complex topography site conditions. All the above research are studied under the basic theory of the vertical design of the residential area under the complex topography site conditionsFirstly, the residential district site vertical design points and design process under the condition of complex topography site are proposed on the basic of the analysis of complex topography site conditions living district site vertical design types, the design characteristics of vertical design of the residential areas between the complicated topography site conditions and flat residential areas, the main influencing factors of the residential district site vertical design of complex topography site conditions.Secondly, to achieve the earthwork balance and the minimum total cost of site earthwork need to establish a relatively perfect grading level cost model so that the grading level can meet the both needs. This model combine the least squares method and grid method through the summary of traditional grading level calculation method on the basic of taking many factors into consideration such as the complex topography site conditions, the site of the natural topography site, the site layout requirements and site slope design requirements. This model also meet the conditions of the excavating balance of the whole earth filling and meet the step height of ladder layout under the complex topography site conditions.Thirdly, the feasibility of processing steps with Civil 3D and Kriging interpolation to generate the optimal DEM model to optimize the earthwork is proposed on the summary of calculation methods of common earth volume and calculation methods of the triangulated irregular network(TIN) to establish the DEM model. It is proposed also on the analysis of the precise calculation of the site earthwork of the Irregular triangular mesh DEM model for complex topography site conditions and the strong three-dimensional processing and earthwork calculation power of the 3D Civil on the different topography site conditions.
