Research On The Edge Space Of The Mountain Park In Chongqing City Landscape Planning And Design

Guided by the policies of constructing ecological garden city, all cities speed up the construction of public park, while urban residents have increasingly bigger demand for public park. However, with too much emphasis on landscapes inside the park, people neglect the edge zone between park and city. Being the area closest to city and citizens, the edge space is the intersection of material flow and information flow in heterogeneous space, which is featured by more complex characteristic, more diversified form, and more multiple influences than core space inside the park. The Edge space of mountain park has a higher position environment and ecological value because of its geographic characteristic besides the abovementioned characteristics. Thus, the planning and design of edge space landscape in the mountain park, which directly determines the fine connection and transition between park and urban space, can both promote the integration of urban construction space and green environment space for landscape and ecological benefit, and improve urban environment quality upon local space characteristic.Upon the research object of edge space landscape in the mountain park of Chongqing downtown, First it is subject to theoretical study, through the review of domestic and foreign literatures, with reference to relevant theories including urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, landscape ecology, and behavior psychology. Next, through the field survey on the edge space of 24 mountainous parks in Chongqing downtown, a detailed analysis on surrounding land nature, elevation between the edge space and the city, edge space form, main component, edge space usage form, and public utility is conducted upon 4 typical cases, to summarize the characteristics and problems of the appearance. Finally, upon the above theoretical research and survey, the strategies for planning and design of edge space landscape in mountain park are proposed. Thus, here comes the following conclusions:(1). Park edge space is under the dual effects of inside and outside the park, which determines that it owns the functions of isolation limitation, behavior guidance, contact and transition, ecological protection, disaster prevention and hedge, landscape display and so on. It also means it is featured with publicity, transitivity, hierarchy and ambiguity. The edge space of mountain park affected by terrain has the characteristics of space with multi-level landscape and environment with rich visual landscape.(2). We found the edge space has different forms like retaining walls, enclosure, fences, buildings, plant quarantine, plant transition zone, green land and gentle slope, grassland and activity space through on-the-spot investigation. We have analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of different forms through cases; It is concluded that the external urban space, terrain, ontology of mountain park has effect on mountain park edge space and the elements of which can be classified as three types of entering type, transparent type and quarantine type according to the form and characteristics of edge space. we also discusses the characteristics of different types of edge space; it is found that the current edge space of mountain park exists the problems of lacking contact and transition, insufficient consideration of ecological effect, single form, lack of detailed design, function deficiency and lack of supporting facilities.(3). The edge space landscape of mountain park should abide by design principles of integrity, permeability, ecology, beauty, humanization and culture. The design methods include performing overall layout according to the nature of the surrounding lands, strengthening hierarchy design, creating available gentle edge space landscape, building green landscapes with ecological pleasure, focusing humanized design which meets the demand of tourists, optimizing public facilities of edge space. At the same time, we provide detailed design to entering type, transparent type and quarantine type of edge space from the perspective of landscape composing elements.
