Rocking frame, which is a new type way of seismic resistance and retrofitting with the advantages of less dead weight, strong energy-dissipation capability and construction convenience based on the principle of rocking wall, is proposed by scholars. Rocking frame can reduce the inter-story drift and the damage of reinforced concrete structures subjected to strong seismic action. Meantime, energy-dissipation rocking frame can control the drift of structure and dissipate seismic energy by recentring dissipation devices installed in ground floor of structure. However, this new type way of seismic resistance and retrofit is seldom applied to practical structures of retrofitting field by engineers. In order to provide a realistic basis for seismic resistance and retrofitting field of structure, the structural seismic performance of before and after reinforcement using rocking frame are researched systematically. The damage index of structural components and overall structure retrofitted using rocking frame subjected to strong seismic action still needs to be further investigated, and the research concerning the seismic performance of plane irregular structures retrofitted by rocking frame is little comparatively. Consequently, main contents in this study include following several aspects:A method based on stiffness requirement is used to design a frame structure with energy-dissipation rocking frame. The far field, near-field with pulse and near-field with non-pulse seismic records with ten respectively are use in this research. The dynamic responses of structure with excitation of seismic waves according to different levels of shaking with seismic precautionary intensity eight are simulated by Open Sees. The damage index of reinforced concrete frame structure with and without energy-dissipation rocking frame is achieved. Results show energy-dissipation rocking frame has effectively control damage degree of structural components.The dynamic responses of frame structure with energy-dissipation rocking wall, energy-dissipation structure with BRB, base-isolated structure are compared with frame structure with energy-dissipation rocking frame. The damage index of floors is achieved by statistical analysis of drift responses. Results reveal that frame structure with energy-dissipation rocking frame performs well and is applicable to seismic resistance and retrofitting of structure.Modeling the reinforced concrete frame structure, frame structure with energydissipation rocking frame by Open Sees, the dynamic responses of two structures are analyzed using the method of increment dynamic analysis and overall damage index and the IDA curves of acceleration peak value are achieved. Results show the energydissipation rocking frame has effectively control on structural damage and improvement of seismic performance.An irregular reinforced concrete frame structure modeled by SAP2000 is retrofitted using energy-dissipation rocking frame and seven seismic waves are used to dynamic time history analysis. The energy-dissipation rocking frame performs well and can control inter-story drift and torsional effect effectively.
