Steel-plate shear wall(SPSW) is a high rigidity, high strength and good ductility member, which was proved to be both effective and economical in resisting lateral load, especially severe seismic loading, if pro perly designed. The seismic energy dissipation of SPSW is through the deformation of the infill steel plate. But the precondition is that the frame has the enough rigidity strength and ductility in order to restraint the diagonal tension field. As the columns of the steel plate shear wall system are subjected to both large axial forces and bending moments, it is more important to make sure the column is reliable. The previously research of domestic and overseas focused the method to weaken the infill plate. But this paper brought the PEC composite columns into the SPSW system to develop the excellent aseismic performance of the SPSW.This paper introduced the establishment of finite element model, discussed the testing of the specimens under monotonous loading and cyclic loading respectively. Then analyzed and summarized the mechanics behavior of the specimens, such as strength, stiffness, ductility, P-Δ curve, hysteretic curve, energy dissipation. In addition the paper explored the influence about the axial compression ratio, the ratio of height to thickness and the concrete strength. Whereafter A half-scale steel plate shear wall with partially encased composite columns was tested to determine its performance under simulated earthquake loading. At last it compared the test result to the FEA result. According to these wrok, the followed conclusions can be obtained:(1)PEC-SPSW had high rigidity high strength and good ductility, and it’s mechanical behavior was more superior than the H-SPSW;(2)The hysteretic behavior of PEC-SPSW was stable, and the hysteretic curve was full, the ratio of energy dissipation was large;(3)The ratio of height to thickness was more large, the ultimate capacity and the hysteretic behavior was more good. The concrete strength was less effect to the lateral mechanical behavior. The axial compression ratio was more large, the ultimate capacity and the hysteretic behavior was more low;(4)The destruction reason was the tear of the beam, because of the out-of-plane buckling, but before the destruction, the PEC column shows the enough ability to restrain the infill plate, and the plate was yield previously.(5)The result of the FEA under the ideal condition was little different from the result of the real test. But both showed e xcellent aseismic behavior, even the influence to the SPSW had the same conclusion.
