The earth pressure retaining on wall gradual change with the development of the displacement. When the retaining wall does not produce displacement, moves away from backfill, moves toward backfill, the earth is respectively rest, active and passive earth pressure. The large number of experiments and practice are found that earth pressure on retaining wall failed to reach the limit of active and passive limit equilibrium state due to the small deformation, but in a non-limit active, passive state.Classical earth pressure theory ignored the stress redistribution caused by soil arching effect, but in fact, the soil arching effect have an important influence on distribution of earth pressure, which can not be ignored. Previous arch shape for soil behind the wall includes the catenary and circular arcs, and the undeflected stress position were set at slip surface. The model is feasible for the RB mode, but translational mode appears contradictory, because the horizontal shear on the former’s infinitesimal soil surfaces is not zero, while the force is zero for the latter. So the soil arch shape behind the wall for translational mode needs improvements to conform the translational mode features. With information on current research of non-limit and soil arching effect, this paper has done the following work:1. Assuming the soil arching shape under translational mode is symmetric arc, to ensure the surfaces shear on the infinitesimal soil surfaces is zero. It is applied to the pressure solving about sandy, clay soil under translational mode, further the formulas of earth pressure, force and force action point considering soil arching effect and displacement are put forward. Then the results proposed in this paper are in better agreement with the experimental data than the previous results.2. Further research the retaining wall displacement mode affect on earth pressure,Consider the shear on infinitesimal backfill for non-limit active earth pressure under RB mode, then non-limit active earth pressre is obtained according to the equilibrium equation. The pressure increases with the increase of backfill depth, while the pressure under translational mode first increases then decreases with the increase of backfill depth.3. Base on the pseudo-dynamic analysis method, seismic active earth pressure on incline retaining wall is studied, its coefficient of earth pressure cyclical changes with time, and the most dangerous moment is chosed for analyzing the distribution of earth pressure along the wall height.
