Due to the influence of various factors, various types of buildings and structures of the city, especially the large number of high-rise buildings will have a settlement in a certain extent, which was considered to be a normal phenomenon, but it will affect the normal use of buildings as soon as the settlement exceeds a certain limit, seriously it can hit the safety of buildings. Therefore, during the construction and operation of buildings, settlement observation is very important, which can monitor and analyze the changes and working conditions of structures, then providing accurate information to decision-makers with macro level in real time, and ensuring the buildings are at safety state during the process of construction and use.This paper selects Xi’an as the study area, which located in the Guanzhong Plain region with the collapsible loess geological conditions, the research object were high-rise buildings in Xi’an between 2004-2013. By analyzing the settlement observation data of more than 200 high-rise residential buildings, the settlement observation method and accuracy requirement of high-rise buildings under collapsible loess geological conditions were discussed. Based on settlement analysis indicators observed from the settlement, rate of settlement and differential settlement, long-term settlement characteristics of high-rise buildings in Xi’an area were studied from North, East, South and West four regions with different geological conditions, and according to the settlement regularity of different development stages in the process of Excavation-Cap-Use, exponential curve model was used to estimate the final settlement of buildings, the distribution of differential settlement were getted by mathematical statistical analysis method. Finaly, the value of stability control and early warning in cumulative settlement and differential settlement at different time points were achieved, which provides the theory basis of settlement observation and early warning for the buildings in collapse loess area.
