The tire tread pattern is in direct contact with the ground. Stiffness is one of the most important performance parameters of tread patterns, which has an important effect on the whole behavior of the tire, such as braking, turning, noise and side slip properties. Based on the typical TBR tire tread pattern blocks, this dissertation aims at systematical study on the stiffness characteristics with the method of combining the theoretical modeling, experimenta l study and the finite element simulation technology, which can lay the foundation for the design of the high-performance radial tires and have important theoretical significance and widespread application value.Firstly, the stiffness theory model of tread pattern block was developed. Based on the research of constant cross-section and variable cross-section pattern block at home and abroad, a method considering pattern block shape factor and compression strain calculation was presented. Based on this, the new stiffness theory model was obtained. The influencing factor s of pattern block stiffness were analyzed in several ways of cross-section shape, aspect ratio coefficient, layout angle and draft angle. Also the stiffness values of the typical pattern block were forecasted.Secondly, the tread pattern block stiffness test platform was developed. The test platform mainly includes the normal loading mechanism, horizontal feed mechanism, tangential force test facility, the pattern sample clamp, etc. In addition, the design of data acquisition and servo control system was completed. This will lay the technical groundwork for the experimental study on the stiffness characteristics of the tread block and it will be an effective tool for the research of pattern stiffness.Then, experimental study on the stiffness characteristics of the tread block was carried out. The vulcanizing mould of the typical all-steel radial tire tread block was designed and the pattern samples were prepared. Based on the test platform developed, experimental study on six different geometric tread block were conducted, proposed the influence mechanism of the running speed and load to the stiffness characteristics. At the same time, the validi ty of the theoretical model was verified.Finally, simulation and optimization of the stiffness characteristics of tread blocks were carried out. To fit the constitutive model parameters of tread material, mechanical performance test were performed. The three-dimensional model of the tread blocks with di fferent geometry shapes were developed with CATIA. ABAQUS was used to establish the finite element analysis model of the tread block stiffness characteristics. Based on this, the contact pressure and shear stress distribution rule of different tread blocks were studied and in order to obtain the optimal parameter combination, orthogonal design method was applied t o optimize the structure of the tread block, which can provide basis for improving the tire pattern stiffness.
