Macao’s administration was resumed by People’s Republic of China in 1999.Coincidentally the franchised gaming contract expired in 2001 and Macao’s economy was then at a low ebb. In order to accelerate the economic recovery and lay a solid foundation for the future development, the Macao SAR Government launched a global tender for the gaming concession after adopting a liberalisation policy with the reference to a consulting firm’s study. This has led to the number of gaming operators to change from one to six.The liberalisation of the gaming industry has enabled Macao to change from an unknown fishing village to a worldwide renown gaming city. Afterwards, Macao has become the focus of the foreign investors because of its skyrocketed annual gaming revenue exceeding even that of Las Vigas. Following the six gaming firms’ huge spending on their facilities, the construction industry has entered a high speed development stage. These establishments and their use have caused a significant change in the construction form and style, and also led to a transformation on the construction development and building appearance. These gaming buildings are very different from the existing premises, in terms of the height, the mass, the pattern or the style. They have become a new element of Macao city. Moreover, they have demonstrated the diversity of Macao urban buildings and brought a new look to its view and landscape.Based on the current situation of development, this dissertation is to study the titled theme. Through the research and analysis on the gaming buildings development in Macao and Cotai areas as well as their surroundings, this paper aims to find out the impact of these gaming constructions on their neighbouring environment and on the Macao urban buildings.
