Myanmar, a country long hovering at the edge of the world politics and economy,has been frequently discussed recently. The reason, first, is that President Thein Seinhas taken the first step of democratic reform since his inauguration. Myanmar’swillingness of getting rid of backwardness attracts world’s attention. Second, it hasalso attracted the eyes of many other counties because of its strategic location, richnatural resources, and great interests. But undoubtedly, Myanmar has become the newfocus of the Western countries and even the world. Scholars from various countriesare also committed to developing its development and reform model of the politics,economy, and culture.In1948, the newly independent Myanmar, was actually the on the verge ofcollapse, and the long war had caused great damage to economy. Even worse, afterNe Win’s regime came to power in1962, Myanmar embarked on the " Myanmarsocialism" path of development, Myanmar’s politics, economy, culture and otheraspects stagnated because of the policy of seclusion during this period. Although the1988military coup in Myanmar, established a regime headed by General Saw Maung.The new military junta taken a full range of economic reforms after came to power,Myanmar’s foreign economy has developed to some extent. However, due to theelection victory of League for Democracy, led by Aung San Suu Kyi, and the junta’srefusal to hand over power and other reasons. Myanmar suffered Economic Sanctionfrom Western countries, almost drifted away from the international politics andeconomy arena.This article focuses mainly on Myanmar’s external economy relations since1988,study Myanmar’s economic development mode from trade and investmentperspectives; the trade status between Myanmar and the main economy partners,China, India, the United States and Japan; especially the relation between China andMyanmar, the characteristics of Myanmar Foreign Economic Relations; analysis theconstraints of Myanmar Foreign Economic relations backward; Forecast the economyperspective under the background of recent reforms after President Thein Sein iscommitted to democratization and Western countries gradually lift economic sanctions;and forecast Myanmar foreign economy policy direction after the2015election.First put forward research questions and its significance, research methods andideas. In view of various research literature, based on the summary of researches onMyanmar’s economy, the article focused on the politics and culture, but because of thelack of economy data of existing research economy is not fully discussed. Thenthrough data analysis, comparative analysis, econometric model analysis and othermethods, this article delivered a thorough analysis of the economy relationshipbetween Myanmar and other major economy partners. from the view of trade andinvestment. Finally, draw the conclusions of Myanmar foreign economy relations, putforward policy proposals and prospects forecast.
