Research On Foreign Direct Investment In Myanmar

Economy in Myanmar has been in a slow stage of development due to various reasons, such as domestic politics, economy, culture and history etc. since1989, many countries have begun to make direct investment in Burma. Based on the actual situation and needs of domestic development, the government of Myanmar issued a new" Foreign Investment Law" in2012, and it helped a lot in regulating all foreign investors’ behavior when they invest in Myanmar. In recent years, with the changing of Myanmar economic development and investment environment, the scales, areas and funds sources of foreign direct investment in Myanmar are also undergoing tremendous changes. In the process of rapid development of FDI, it provides adequate funds for economic development in Myanmar and meanwhile brings a lot of advanced experiences of technology and management. However, the more development of FDI, the more problems it caused. Therefore, how to more effective make use of FDI is a problem needed to be solved right now for Myanmar government.In this paper, the author will research the environment of foreign direct investment in Myanmar, including politics, economy and investment environment and discuss the current situation of FDI in Myanmar based on the data of three main investors, China, Japan and America. Last but not leas, author will analyze how Myanmar government use FDI by SWOT to find the current problems, accordingly, author will propose appropriate measurements and suggestions to make a contribution to the healthy development of economics and society in Myanmar.
