Africa Continent, as an emerging market, is undergoing industrialization andurbanization. However, the low level of its infrastructure hinders the economic andsocial development of African countries, as well as the process of regional integration.The China-Africa cooperation on infrastructure, has, to some extent, helped improvethe situation in African countries, and has promoted Chinese enterprises to “goglobal”. At present, China’s economy is entering into a “New Normal”, while Africa’sdemand for infrastructure is growing stronger. Therefore, the study of China’sinvolvement in African infrastructure construction is of great importance, beneficial tothe promotion of China-Africa economic relations, the cultivation of China’s newcompetitive edge and the transformation and upgrading of China’s economy.In this article, we will first describe the current situation, market demand, and theprospect of African infrastructure, and then the history and current state ofChina-Africa infrastructure cooperation. Based on this description, we will analyze,from both the government and enterprise perspective, the driving force of China’sparticipation in African infrastructure, and analyze the advantage, the internal andexternal constraints of this participation. At the end of this article, we will give somespecific suggestions for the further development of China-Africa infrastructurecooperation, which could be helpful to the decision-making of Chinese government,enterprises and financial institutions, the three main infrastructure cooperationparticipants.
