On Marx 's Critical Theory Of Commodity Fetishism

Commodity fetishism is a social phenomenon which accompanied by the development of commodity economy. In the commercial economy society, people meet their needs of survival and developing by the exchange of goods between them.Commodities are produced by the workers’ labor, but in the process of exchange and circulation, the relationship of people has gradually been replaced by the relationship of things. People does not see the interpersonal relationship which embodied in the commodities, so they think that commodities exist independent of human beings and with a veil of mystery. Thus, people pay homage to commodities,which resulted in commodity fetishism. Commodity fetishism dispels the dominant position of people, reversing the relationship between the persons and things, eroding the people’s economic life, hindering the social development. Therefore, it has important practical value and significance for us to study the Marx’s theory of commodity fetishism.The first chapter of the thesis is to sort out and analyze the historical circumstance of the present of Marx’s theory of commodity fetishism, which thought that the social division of labor and the establishment of commercial economy are the origin of the commodities. This is the historical background of proposing the critical theory of commodity fetishism for Marx as well. Then, to sort out and overview the process of the development of Marx’s critical theory of commodity fetishism. The second chapter is to describe the basic content of Marx’s critical theory of commodity fetishism, to analyze the historical phenomenon of commodity fetishism which grows out of nothing, to elaborate that the contradiction of individual labor and social labor is the cause of commodity fetishism, to analyze the development form of commodity fetishism——money fetishism and capital fetishism, and ultimately come to realization of communism is the fundamental way to get rid of commodity fetishism.The third chapter is to focus on the theoretical and practical significance of Marx’s theory of commodity fetishism. From the theoretical point of view, Marx’s critical theory of commodity fetishism provides a theoretical basis for enriching the labor theory of value and a theoretical weapon for the critique of national economics. From the practical point of view, Marx’s theory of commodity fetishism not only provide a key for us to understand current social fetishism phenomenon thoroughly, but also point out the direction and approach to get rid of commodity fetishism completely.In a word, it is important for us to study Marx’s critical theory of commodity fetishism. It provides the ideological guidance for the establishment of socialist market economy. We need to develop the productive forces to provide a rich material foundation for the society. Eliminating the old division of labor, improving the distribution system, eliminating the phenomenon of commodity fetishism gradually,so as to realize the free and comprehensive development of people.
