As China speeds up its industrialization and urbanization process, the country is saddled with declining stock of ecological resources and fatigued resource regeneration capacity. Recently, more negative factors have emerged, posing threats to harmony between economic prosperity and ecological diversity. In this connection, searching a feasible ecological compensation mechanism that fits in with prohibited development zone (PDZ) has been prioritized among industry insiders as a way to sustain prohibited zone development. This thesis takes Shiwandashan Natural Reserve as the object of research. With an extensive reading of relevant literature from home and abroad, the author has summarized previous research findings about ecological compensation mechanism of PDZ. The author uses CVM and CE models to estimate ecological compensation criteria, trying to optimize the ecological compensation mechanism of PDZ. To realize targets mentioned above, the thesis has been presented in four parts. As the fundamental part of the thesis, part one is composed of chapter I and chapter Ⅱ. The background research and significance of study have been proposed. Then study progress about ecological compensation mechanism suitable for PDZ is put forward by extensive reading and analyzing literature. This part also includes introduction to Externality theory, Public Goods theory and Ecological Compensation. Ties among them and their application to ecological compensation practice in PDZ have been highlighted in the part, serving as theoretical foundation for the thesis as a whole.Chapter Ⅲ, chapter IV and chapter Ⅴ make up of part two, main part of the thesis. Under the basis of research findings across the globe, chapter Ⅲ focus on the study of the CVM and CE models with the integration of research object and theoretical foundation. In chapter IV, questionnaire is designed in the light of relevant theories and its contents are revised after survey. All the statistics will be processed and analyzed carefully. In chapter V, the value of Shiwandashan Nature Reserve will be reckoned systemically in the light of CVM and CE models and ecological compensation criteria in PDZ will be formulated after relevant models are created.Part three consists of chapter VI only. The author summarizes current state of ecological compensation of PDZ at first and then puts forward effective solutions, for instance, speeding up the formulation of relevant laws and regulations to protect ecology, developing more channels for financing to raise ecological compensation criteria, and diversifying ways of compensation.Chapter Ⅶ makes up of the final part, namely conclusion of the thesis, achievements and future work.
