Influence Of Root Pruning Treatments On Blueberry Biological Characteristics

Effects of root pruning of different time and different pruning grade on thegrowth characteristics, fruit quality and leaf photosynthesis were conducted in thefield by using7years ‘Reka’ blueberry. The results showed that:1、The root pruning (25cm from the bush)in the autumn parallel to the plantingline on the both sides of the bush can increase plant growth significantly. The lengthand the diameter of the sucker shoot increased15.8%and15.1%respectively thanthat of control, The length and diameter of the fruiting shoots increased12.1%and21.4%respectively than that of control; The growth of sucker shoot and fruiting shootdecreased with the pruning grade, but higher than that of control in all the treatments.The yield, flower setting rate and the fruit quality were increased by root pruning.The fruit soluble sugar and soluble soiled content were significantly increased by rootpruning.2、The root pruning (25cm from the bush)in the autumn parallel to the plantingline on the both sides of the bush can significantly increase leaf photosynthesis. thenet photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomata conductance were significantlyhigher than that of control, but the intercellular CO2concentration is lower than that ofcontrol.3、The across bush root pruning on east and west direction from5cm of thebush can significant inhibit the plant growth. The length and diameter of the basalshoot decreased8.5%and7.6%than that of control, and the length and diameter ofthe fruiting shoot decreased8.8%and8.2%than that of control. The result alsoshowed that the root pruning decreased yield and flower setting rate, and this couldbe used as best methods of plant growth regulation.
