Marine eupulmonates of the family Onchidiidae are shell-less, slug-like molluscsmainly living on sheltered intertidal shores, throughout the world, except the PolarRegions. About6species in5genera are known from China. In continuing our researchon the chemistry of family Onchidiidae, we have recently investigated the chemicalcomponents of Onchidium struma, Paraoncidium reevesii, Peronia verruculata,Platevindex mortoni from the intertidal zone in China. The compounds were isolatedand purified by various chromatographic techniques and recrystallization. Theirstructures were determined on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectral data.Fourteen compounds were isolated from the Onchidiidae, identified as,2,2’-oxybis(1,4-di-tert-butyl benzene)(1), Cholesterol (2), Batilol (3), Ethyloctadecanoate (4), Stearic acid (5), Chimyl alcohol (6), Baconipyrone D (7),Uracil (8),Thymine (9),3-indolecarboxylic acid (10),-monpalmitin (11), Uridine (12),Thymidine (13), β-Sitosterol (14). Baconipyrone D (7)(polypropionate) has anintensely bitter, maybe it is the important reason that why people along the coastlineoften eat the Onchidiidae with the exception of P. reevesii. All these compounds fromthis source are being reported here for the first time. β-Sitosterol was isolated from theobjectives of O. struma and P. mortoni. The content of cholesterol in Onchidium struma, Peronia verruculata,Paraoncidium reevesii, Platevindex mortoni were determined by HPLC on COSMOSIL5C18-MS-Ⅱ(4.6mm×250mm,5μm). The chromatogram conditions were as follows;methanol as moblie phase, flow rate1.0mL/min and detecting wave length at204nm.The column temperature was35℃. The injection volume was20uL. The cholesterolwas in the range of0.102~0.510mg/mL with good linear correlation, correlationcoefficient R2=0.9934. The average cholesterol content of O. struma was5870.00mg/kg, of P. mortoni was3480.00mg/kg, of P. Verruculata was388.00mg/kg, of P.reevesii was316.00mg/kg. Statistical analysis showed that the content of cholesterol inthe four species edible part has significant difference. Finally, the contents of taurine in Onchidium struma, Peronia verruculata,Paraoncidium reevesii, Platevindex mortoni were determined by HPLC at the FLD detector excitation. The average taurine content of P. verruculata was7168.96mg/kg,of O. struma was6740.42mg/kg, was much higher than that P. reevesii was5542.42mg/kg, of P. mortoni was5263.33mg/kg.
