In modern urban environment, the complex vision, noises, congestion and fast-paceare all harmful to human health. With the promotion of horticulture therapy anddevelopment of landscape construction, people’s attention and demands on their physicaland mental health and the environment are increasingly high, which is a reflection ofhuman’s pro-natural attributes. It is no doubt that plants should receive more attentionswhether from the view of horticulture or landscape. Most of the past studies on therelationship between people and plants are almost about plants’ symbolism or culturalconnotations that given by people and their effects on people’s physiology and psychology.Above discussions always stay at the level of human beings and plants. It is different thatstudy on emotional plants focus on the relationship of a person or a particular group withplants to explore people’s emotional attachment to plants closely associated with life.Based on concepts and theories related to emotional plants and emotional attachment,scale of residents’ emotional attachment to emotional plants has been developed. Andaccording to the Fuzhou residents’ preference,6species have been selected. They arejasmine, bougainvillea, banana, gardenia and palm. Then take a random sampling methodto do the interviews and questionnaires survey for the research. After that, methods such asdescriptive statistical analysis, factor analysis, principal component analysis, one-wayANOVA and path analysis have been used to analysis the data regained and then test thehypotheses. Two conclusions have been received that different person has differentemotional attachment to emotional plants and people have different emotional attachmentto different emotional plant. Finally, this article briefly discusses the use of emotionalplants and the future study on it.
