Cotton is an all-important economic crop in China. The Yellow River Delta region is themain cotton-producing area in China, and cotton occupies an important place in the agriculturaleconomy in the region. In recent years, with the rapid growth of domestic labor costs, thecotton industry in the Yellow River Delta region cannot be healthy and orderly development.Therefore, it is very urgent to realize mechanization in the whole process of the cottonproduction, especially to solve the problem of the region’s cotton harvest mechanization. Atpresent, the Western countrie cotton harvest mechanization level is high. However, thedomestic production of the core components of the cotton picker still imported from abroad.Therefore, it is very important to optimize design and improvement on the basis of the currentmodels.This article was on the basis of existing horizon spindle-type cotton picker.Through thevirtual prototype technology, the theory analysis about structural parameters and the movementof the picking monomer were carried out, and found the key point of modification andoptimization design, which provided the theoretic bases for design and manufacture of cottonpicker which is suitable for the Yellow River Delta region.This article first analyzed the cotton growth characteristics of Yellow River Delta region,from the perspective of cotton plants to analyze the characteristics of cotton picker. Thencomparative analysis the strengths and weaknesses of the existing structure, and determine thehorizon spindle-type as the subject program. This article designed the structure layout of thepicker and the driving scheme, and analyzed the structure of cotton picker drum, doffingmechanism and divider. Finally found the key components and key points can be optimizedand improved.This article has established a three-dimensional model and adopted a motion simulation ofthe horizon spindle-type cotton picker drum by the UG software. Through the simulationanalysis and calculation, found the movement of the cam curve and crankshaft. The spindlemotion and force are analyzed in theory. This article has found the reasonable relationshipbetween the machine forward speed, drum radius and drum speed when cotton harvesting, andprovided reference for the design and improvement of parts.Finally, by use of ANSYS software, dynamic analysis and static simulation analysis wereconducted on the spindle. The results described that the material and shape selection of thespindle could meet the requirements, and the resonance phenomenon wouldn’t occur during normal operation in theory. Analysis results showed that the deformation of the spindle is verysmall, fracture phenomenon will not occur. These provided a theoretical basis for the designand manufacture of the spindle.
