Monochamus alternatus Hope is one of the major trunk borers of pine. It is also aprimary insect vector of pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, and othernematodes.Since B. xylophilus was discovered at Zhonggong of Jiangxi in2003,it has beenspread rapidly to Lushan District, Pengze County, Hukou County, Duchang County andother13counties (cities, districts) in Jiangxi Province. More detail,studies on the biologyecology and chemical control methods of M.alternatus are essential for the control of M.alternates,and the epidemic and spread of B. xylophilus. The major results are summarizedas follows:1、Biological characteristics of M. alternatus in the southern of Jiangxi provinceIn southern Jiangxi, M. alternatus reproduces1or2generations per1year.55.71%M.alternatus emergenced are overwinter generation of adults.Results of rearing overwinter generation of adults indoor and outdoor showed thatthere were significant differences in egg production, pre-oviposition period, oviposingperiod and adult life span. Development duration of each insect stage was longer whenreared indoor than those when reared outdoor. When the overwinter generation and firstgeneration adults were reared indoor, there was considerable difference in pre-ovipositionduration, but not in reproduction and life span.Oviposition behavior was primarily concentrated on scotophagy, showing anoviposition peak between18:00and22:00.2、The population dynamics of M. alternatusWe find evidence that the eclosion duration of overwinter generation of M. alternatuswas prolonged with increasing the temperature and decreasing the rainfall under comparedthe relationship between the eclosion duration and the weather indices using7years datafrom2006to2012in Anfu country. We investigated the adults’ eclosion using trappingtechnique in the forest of Pinus massoniana Lamb at4different latitude regions in Jiangxiprovince. The results showed that the time of adult M. alternatus appeared and peakedwere delayed with increasing the latitude. Compared to Pinus elliottii woods in diversestand structure at Xinfeng of Ganzhou, we did not find any difference between the initialtime of eclosion and the eclosion duration. However, there was a significant difference ineclosion peak and eclosion rate among Pinus elliottii woods in separate stand structure.3、Spatial pattern of larvae and adult M. alternatus in the forest of Pinus elliottiiDetermination by the method of aggregation index showed that the spatial pattern oflarvae and adult were considered as assemble distribution in the forest of Pinus elliottii.The entrance hole or exit hole of M. alternatus were related with the height of trees, showing the largest number of entrance hole bored by larvae were focused on5.1±2.3mheight of trees, while the adults of M. alternatus deposited more exit hole on5.3±2.3mheight of trees.By analyzing the investigation data, the equations between entrance hole, exit hole inlower part of the trunk and those in whole trunk were fitted.4、Control trial of attractively=killing-type contacted-breaking release micro-capsule.The toxicities and control effects of attractively=killing-type contacted-breakingrelease micro-capsule against M. alternatus were tested in the laboratory. The virulenceregression equation was obtained and the optimum experimental concentration wasscreened and ascertained at100times solution.Useing100times solution every10days can quickly attract the adult which is in thespawning period.After spayed insecticide,1bited wood which was established for every50m distance can quickly attract the adult in the area of0.785hm2,which was set up forevery100m distance also can effectively attract the adult in the area of3.14hm2.Following consideration of the factor of economic, we suggest that the bited woodsare set up every1hm2in production,and the wood spay insecticide100times solution every15days are more appropriate.
