In this experiment, Eighty1-day-old mixed gendered Hy-brown hens, were divided into four groups with20chicks in each group. Allicin, with doses of Omg/kg (control group, CG),50mg/kg (low dose group, LG),100mg/kg (medium dose group, MG) and150mg/kg (high dose group, HG) in per kilogram was added in daily ration, respectively. The experiment lasted for35days with breeding and immunization in regular methods. At the end of the experiment, the chicks and their livers were weighed, and the average daily gain and feed ratio were calculated. The morphological structure hepatic cells were oberved with light and electron microscope. ALT and AST enzyme activity of serum was determined. The content of TBIL、DBIL、IBIL、TBA、SCr、 TP、ALB、and GLB, lipid metabolism markers (TG、TCHO、LDL、HDL)in liver were determined. Oxidation and antioxidant (MDA、SOD、GSH-Px) status was detected. The results are followed:1. Liver nucleus membrane and nuclear pore of dosage group are clearer and cytoplasm is more uniform. The hepatic cords and the trend are clearer and more obvious.2. Among the experimental and control groups, ALT and AST activities were not significantly different (P>0.05), which showed that allicin had no harm on hepatic cell.3. There were no significant differences in the content of TBIL, DBIL, TBA and SCr (P>0.05) between each group. However, TBIL of the experimental group is lower than that of the control group and the lowest TBIL value appeared in M group. There were no significant difference in TBA and SCr(P>0.05) among each group. The content of IBIL(P>0.05) in M group is obviously lower than other groups, which showed that allicin could improve liver’s secretion and excretory function, and promote the excretory of IBIL.4. The content of TP, ALB, GLB in experimental groups was significantly higher than CG (P <0.05) and the highest values of TP, ALB and GLB appeared in M Group, which showed that allicin had promoting effect on protein synthesis in chicks’ liver. Such effect showed the stongest, when the dose is100mg/kg.5. In experimental group TG, CHOL was significantly lower than that of the CG (P<0.05). With the dose of allicin increasing, TCHO had a trend of reduction, which indicated a dosage dependent response relatedness. Among the treatments, HDL showed no significant difference (P>0.05). H group was significantly lower than other LDL-dose group (P<0.05), which showed that allicin had an effect of reducing blood fat on chicks.6. SOD, GSH-Px activities of experimental groups were significantly higher than CG (P <0.05), and the highest activities were in the M group. Allicin significantly reduced serum and liver MDA content (P<0.05), which had dose dependent relationship. Allicin could enhance the activity of antioxidant enzymes in chicks and reduce lipid peroxidation damage. The most enhancement and reduction were observed, when the dose was100mg/kg.
