In recent years, the demand for livestock products is increasing, the livestockindustry has been developing rapidly. Along with the development of livestock, forage industry developed gradually. Oat as a grain and forage crop was highlyfavored by people, and it became to be one of the main forage grasses. Oats as aforage grass developed in China, mainly distributed in the Qinghai-Tibet alpinepastoral areas, however, in semi-arid pastoral areas in the western of LiaoningProvince, oats had not been attracted people’s attention, yet the introduction ofplanting. Therefore, introduced forage oat varieties tested in western LiaoningProvince, developed its forage industry has important practical significance topromote the development of its livestock industry.According to the survey, oat straw (yellow stalks) used as a forage have a highernutrient content: crude protein content of about5%, fat about2%, digestible fibers11%to18%, Nitrogen-free extract approximately44%(silage’s protein content whichmade of green oats could up to10%). The research trials in Chaoyang City, LiaoningProvince, where the climate belongs to temperate continental monsoon climate, continental climate significantly, is semi-humid and semi-arid drought-prone areas, the soil is gray brown soil. Oats have cold hardiness, poor resistance andsalinity-resistant etc. characteristics, suitable for planting in this district. This paper studied the growth condition, the yield condition and qualitycondition of six kinds of forage oats growing in the Chaoyang district. Through fieldoat yield trials and laboratory quality trials, it compared the yield and nutrient contentof all varieties of oats and analyzed the correlation between the growth traits andyield traits, the growth traits and quality traits. In order to select a excellentforage-type oat variety with high yield, good quality, which were the most suitable forplanting in Western of Liaoning Province. The results were summarized below:From the production point of view, by one-way ANOVA, there were significantdifferences in the average acre grass yield and grain weight among the six varieties of oat.Grass yield differences between oat varieties as follows: Dam-you No.1was thehighest, Baiyan No.2was the lowest. Grain weight differences between oat varietiesas follows: Ji Zhangyan No.3was the heaviest, followed by Ji Zhangyan No.5,Dingyan No.1was the lowest. Other traits showed no significant difference. By acomprehensive comparison the average acre grass yield and seed production volumeof all varieties of oat, the highest yield obtained for Dam-you No.1, followed by theBaiyan No.2and Dam-you No.12, Dingyan No.1was the lowest. From the quality point of view, by pairwise comparison of one-way ANOVA, onthe crude protein content, the Baiyan No.2and Dam-youNo.12were the highestcontent of crude protein, Ji Zhangyan No.3was the lowest. On the soluble sugarcontent, the Dam-you No.12had the highest soluble sugar content, Ji Zhangyan No.5was the lowest. On the crude fiber content, Ji Zhangyan No.3and Dingyan No.1sethigher levels, the lowest was Dam-you No.12. Fat, the Dam-you No.1was the highest, followed by Baiyan No.2, Ji Zhangyan No.5with the lowest content. Summing up allthe quality indicators, Dam-you No.12had the best quality, followed by Baiyan No.2and Dam-you No.1.
