With the increasing of corn planting density, its anti-lodging abilityweakened. Suitable plant growth regulating substance can improve anti-lodgingability for corn by improving its lodging resistance traits. In this test, the test materialis Hua986which is a stem lodging cultivar. The test consists of two parts: Firstly, investigate the difference between lodging plants and control to select the relatedindicators. Secondly, study the effect of5plant growth regulating substance on cornlodging resistance and yield. The results are as follows:1. Corn lodging was significantly negatively correlated with ear height and heightof center of gravity. However, it didn’t have a significant correlation with plant height, diameter and length in third internode, leaf area, fresh weight and dry weightoverground part. Lodging and stalk crust thickness were significantly negativelycorrelated, and with the number of vascular bundles significantly positivelycorrelated. As for the area of vascular bundles, the correlation was not significant.Lodging and stiff skin puncture force and vertical crushing force showed a significantnegative correlation. Lodging significantly caused the reduce of ear weight, eardiameter and100-grain weight compared with the control, but the difference of earlength, rows per ear and grains per row not obvious.Correlation and path analysis showed that, the direct effect of stiff skin punctureforce on the lodging was maximum and then vertical crushing force, ear height andheight of center of gravity. And the last three factors affected lodging through stiffskin puncture force indirectly. Therefore, stiff skin puncture force could be the mostdirect factor affecting corm lodging.2.Five plant growth regulating substance had different effect on corn lodging andyield. Five plant growth regulating substance all decreased the plant height, earheight and height of center of gravity and enhanced the crude of the third internodebut reduced its length, and enhanced stem crust thickness and decreased the numberof vascular bundles, and increased stiff skin puncture force and vertical crushingforce, among which the most obvious treatment was C, the rate of lodging reducedby13.3%compared with the control. As for yield, A had the most significant effectcompared with the control yield4.44%, followed by C, yield3.37%compared withthe control. As a whole, the ear height, center of gravity height, crust stem thickness, numberof vascular bundles, stiff skin puncture force and vertical crushing force of corn wereobviously correlated with lodging and therefore they could be as index for selectingcapacity of lodging resistance. Suitable plant growth regulating compound modifierscould enhance plant lodging resistance and yield by modifying plant architecture andby increasing crust stem thickness, stiff skin puncture force and vertical crushingforce.
