This experiment was conducted in 2012~2013 at Qufu, Shandong Province(35°59′ N,116°89′ E, the middle yield field). Summer maize variety Zheng Dan 958 was used as experimental material, which is mostly planted in northern China. There were 8 nitrogen treatments(M- 100% manure nitrogen treatments; M+U- 50% urea + 50% manure nitrogen treatments; M+S- manure(50% N) + 50% Slow-release nitrogen treatments; U- 100% urea nitrogen treatment; S- Slow-release nitrogen treatment; U+S-50% urea + Slow-release nitrogen treatment; CF- Farmers custom nitrogen treatment; 50% N0- no N treatment). Apply fertilizer according to yield standard of 13500 kg?hm-2. The experiment focused on the effects of different nitrogen treatments on grain yield and its physiological characteristics, the accumulation, distribution and translocation of dry matter and nitrogen, N use efficiency, with the aim of improving soil fertility, fertilizer utilization efficiency, promoting its sustainable production and efficiency, ensuring the high and stable yield at the same time. The main results were as follows:1. Effects of different nitrogen treatments on grain yield and yield components of summer maizeGrain numbers per ear, grain weight and grain yield per plant of M, U, S, M+U, M+S and U+S significantly increased compared with N0 and CF; yield per plant of M+U, M+S significantly increased compared with M,U and S, while S was even more significantly than U; Although grain numbers per ear of M were lower than those of U,grain weight of M were higher than those of U, and finally the grain yield per plant of U were lower.2. Effects of different nitrogen treatments on physiological basis of yield formation of summer maizeThe N0 treatment have a significantly influence on LAI, LAD and dry matter, While LAI, LAD and dry matter of nitrogen application significantly increased compared with N0. Each index of M+U increased significantly compared with M and U. The post LAI, LAD and dry matter accumulation of Slow-release fertilizer significantly increased compared with U, and delayed leave senescence, making for its growth, and yield improvement of maize plant. N accumulation amount of M+U were higher than M and U, S higher than U at the same time. The post N accumulation amount of M+U, S were higher than M and U, making for its yield formation of summer maize.3. Effects of different nitrogen treatments on N use efficiency of summer maizeThe types of nitrogen have a significantly influence on nitrogen use, the change regulation of PFPN was coincident with NAE, but different with NUE and NHI. Compared with U fertilizer mode, M+U, M+S, U +S significantly increased the PFPN and NAE, but M decreased the PFPN and NAE of summer maize. While the change regulations of NUE and NHI were coincident with PFPN and NAE.
