Abstract/Summary:
The oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta(Busck), is one of the important pests in fruit production. This study aims to explore the effects of ultraviolet(UV)、green and blue light on the phototaxis、main biological parameters and protective enzymes of G. molesta, thus illuminate the behaviors of females and males at different physiological stages and provide a theoretical basis for the effect of lights on the biological characteristics of G. molesta. Based on the adult phototaxis to different lights, we investigated impacts of different UV exposure time on the main biological parameters. Moreover, effects of UV on superoxide dismutase(SOD), peroxidase(POD) and catalase activity(CAT) were tested by spectrophotometry.The main results are as follows:1. The phototaxis rate of unmated female tending to UV was significantly higher than white, blue and green light, while unmated males, mated females and males were significantly higher than blue and white light. The phototaxis rate of unmated females was significantly higher than unmated males, mated males and females. In the green light, phototaxis rates of different physiological states of G. molesta were not significantly different. In the blue light, the mated female was significantly higher than others, while the mated male is significantly lower than other physiological state. In the white light, the mated female phototaxis was significantly higher than others. Meanwhile, phototaxis rates of unmated males and mated males were significantly lower than others.2. Under UV exposure with 4 hours, the pre-oviposition period was significantly longer than the control, while the egg hatching rate of all UV treatments was lower than the control. 2 hours UV treatment that per female fecundity was higher than control. While green light for 6 hours, the longevity of female was significantly shorter than 4 hours. 2 and 4 hours, the pre-oviposition period was significantly longer than control. Under blue light exposure with 6 hours, the female longevity was significantly shorter in the 2 and 4 hours. While except 4 hours was higher than the control, the other treatments were lower but differences were not significant.3. Under UV exposure with 30 minutes, SOD activities of unmated female were significantly higher than control. Although under 15, 45 and 60 minutes, the activity of SOD is higher than control, it did not reach significant level. The mated female in 45 minutes, the activity of CAT was significantly higher than that in 15 minutes.As for all the treatments of mated females on the green light, SOD activities were significantly higher than control. While the mated male in 30 minutes the activity of SOD was significantly higher than that in 45 minutes, but no significant difference with the other treatment. Unmated female in 15 and 60 minutes, the activity of SOD was significantly higher than the control, but the difference was not significant with other treatment. Unmated female in 60 minutes, the activity of POD was significantly higher than that of 45 minutes.Under the blue light, SOD activities of the mated male in 45 minutes were significantly higher than that in 60 minutes. The SOD activity of the mated females in 30 minutes was significantly higher than the control. the activity of POD of mated females in 15、30 and 60 minutes were significantly higher than that in 45 minutes and control. The mated males in 15、45 minutes and 60 minutes was significantly higher than that of control, while in 30 minute was significantly lower than the others. The unmated female in 15 and 30 minutes treatment was significantly higher than that in 45 and 60 minutes. The activity of CAT of mated females in 45 minutes was significantly higher than that of control, 30 and 60 minutes. Unmated males in 15, 30, 60 minutes were significantly lower than those in 45 minutes.The above results illustrate that the phototaxis rate of G. molesta in different physiological states and gender is different. The adults have strong phototaxis to UV, and in particular the unmated females are most sensitive to UV. While different exposure time of UVA, green and blue light impact the main biological parameters of G. molesta in a certain extent. UVA, blue, green light have significant influences on main biological parameters and the activities of protective enzymes of G. molesta.
