Caponising refers to remove reproductive organs in chicken. With the development of consumption diversification, castrated chicken production has formed a certain scale in our country. Now, the study of cock castration was more, but, relative research of hen castration was less. There was no report about the study of the Huainan female chicken castration. One hundred Huainan female chickens were randomly divided into two groups at 7 wks of age. One group was ovariectomized (OVX) and another as the control. Effects of ovariectomy on body measurements, feather traits, growth, carcass composition, meat quality, blood parameters and mRNA expression of lipid metabolism related genes at 14 wk and 23 wk of age were investigated in this study. The results showed:1. Live weight of OVX (1090.9 g) was higher than the control (1035.9 g, P<0.01) at 14 wks of age, but did not significantly differ at 23 wks of age (P>0.05).2. Body slope length (19.72 cm), fossil bone length (9.67 cm) and chest depth (8.81 cm) of OVX were significantly higher than the control (18.41 cm,9.26 cm, and 8.3 cm, respectively) (P<0.01) at 14 wks of age; At 23 wks of age, fossil bone length (10.62 cm) and shank circumference (3.57 cm) were significantly less than the control (11.08 cm and 3.73 cm, respectively) (p<0.05).3. At 14 wks of age, percentage of half eviscerated in OVX was lower than the control by 1.5 percentage points (P<0.05), but percentage of abdominal fat was higher than about the control by 0.61 percentage points (P<0.05); At 23 wks of age, percentage of eviscerated, percentage of breast muscle and percentage of thigh muscle significantly lower than the control (P<0.05) by 2.34,0.71,1.15 percentage points, respectively; percentage of abdominal fat of OVX was higher by 2.03 percentage points than the control (P<0.01).4. At 14 wks of age, OVX exhibited higher values of breast meat redness and water holding capacity, lower values of thigh meat redness than the control (P<0.05); IMF and IMP of breast and thigh did not significantly differ between OVX and the control (P>0.05); At 23 wks of age, OVX exhibited lower redness values on breast and thigh (P<0.05), higher water holding capacity on breast meat (P<0.05) than the control. IMF of breast and thigh meat in OVX were higher than the control (P<0.05), while IMP of breast and thigh meat did not significantly differ between OVX and the control (P>0.05).5. At 14 wks of age, serum T level of OVX was 1.5 times than that in the control (P<0.01), and E2 of OVX (18.82 pg/mL) was lower than the control (27.32 pg/mL, P<0.05); HDL-C level was higher by 0.13 mmol/L than the control (P<0.05), while there were no significant differences in FSH, LH, TG, T-CH and LDL-C level (P>0.05). At 23 wks of age, T level in OVX was 1.33 times than that in the control (P<0.05). E2 level was 73.07 pg/mL in OVX, significantly lower than 90.34 pg/mL in the control (P<0.05). HDL-C level was higher by 0.10 mmol/L than the control (P<0.05). TG, T-CH and LDL-C level were lower (P<0.05) than the control by 1.01 mmol/L,0.77 mmol/L and 0.77 mmol/L, respectively; FSH and LH level did not significantly differ between the two groups (P>0.05).6. At 14 wks of age, levels of liver LFABP, abdominal fat PPARy and LPL mRNA were 1.31,1.43 and 2.17 times higher than the control (P<0.05), wihile levels of abodominal fat AFABP and ATGL mRNA were lower than the control (P<0.05); At 23 wks of age, levels of liver ApoB and LFABP mRNA were 1.69 and 2.03 times than the control (P<0.01); levels of abdominal fat PPARy, LPL and ATGL mRNA were 1.66,1.37 and 1.31 times than the control (P<0.05).In conclusion, ovariectomy influenced body measurements, growth performances, carcass composition, meat quality, blood parameters, but there were different influences at different experimental time. However, that abdominal fat rate was higher than intact group both at 14 and 23 wks of age. And the difference of abdominal fat rate may associate with level of liver FAS, ApoB, LFABP gene mRNA and fat PPARy, LPL, AFABP, ATGL gene mRNA.
