Production of processing pepper had became red industry of Xinjiang, which had played an importantrole in farmers’ income and the regional economic development. Occurrence of virus disease had seriouslyaffected the yield and quality of processing peppers. Thus, through investigating and researching of virusdisease of processing pepper of Shihezi, a theoretical basis for prevention and treatment of virus diseasescould be provided.The incidence time, symptom types, infection rates, indexes were investigated by five point method inShihezi. The results showed that the virus disease of processing pepper in2013occurred from late June,and up to the peak in late August; the virus disease symptoms of processing pepper were grouped into fourcategories: mosaic (M), yellow (Ye), necrosis (N) and malformation (Ma), in which the most common typewas mosic, followed necrosis; the infection rates and indexes of virus disease of processing pepper in sixmain production areas were between14.5~64.4%and9.0~41.5, respectively. It showed that virus disease ofprocessing pepper commonly occurs in Shihezi, and there were significant difference in disease degree inthe different places.The factors on virus diseases ocurruce were investigated by five point method in Shihezi. The resultsshowed that different varieties, method of cultivation and presence or no insect nets had significantlyaffected for virus diseases occurrence. The resistance of varieties of processing pepper was stronger, thevirus disease occured lighter; the virus disease of processing pepper of transplanting occured lighter, directseeding heavier; the virus disease of processing pepper with insect nets occured lighter, without insect netsheavier. Different varieties, methods of cultivation and presence or no insect nets had closely related tooccurrence of virus disease of processing pepper.Collected139samples of processing peppers were detected by using RT-PCR with10pairs of specificprimers. The results showed that91%samples of processing peppers were positive. Detected virus specieshad CMV, PMMoV, BBWV2, ChiVMV and TMV, among them detection rates of CMV, PMMoV were thehighest, respectively61.9%and58.3%. It showed that CMV, PMMoV were the main viruses of processingpeppers of Shihezi.There were87complex infection samples among positive, and seven complex infectiontypes. Various symptoms correspond to virus species were detected by RT-PCR. The result showed that aprocessing pepper plant could be infected by a virus or several viruses. Infection with the same virus orcomplex infection of several different viruses could induce several different symptoms in differentprocessing peppers. Obtained virus isolates of processing peppers CMV-SC, PMMoV-SC and BBWV2-SZwere Cloned and sequenced. The resulte showed that identities between CMV-SC and other CMV isolateswas93.7%-97.1%; identities between PMMoV-SC and other PMMoV isolates was94.1%-99.8%;identities between BBWV2-SZ and other BBWV2was84.9%-99%. five virus prevention strategies were developed by field investigation and laboratory virus detection:Selecting disease-resistant varieties, transplanting, setting insect nets and strengthening field manage-mentcould combat the occurrence and damage of virus disease of processing pepper.
