Ginsenosides have broad immunomodulatory effects. However, it’s too expensive to extractsaponins from ginseng root that leads it difficult to popularize in the livestock production. Chemicalanalysis and pharmacological tests showed that ginsenosides, the main ingredient used herein particlesnamed Yiqifuzhengkeli, have similar pharmacological effects with ginseng root saponins. Therefore, itis very meaningful to develope and utilize the source of ginseng saponin from the part of ground. Toexplore the safety of using Yiqifuzhengkeli in the livestock industry, it presents three trials in this paperto provide the basis for further development. Objective: To evaluate the safety of Yiqifuzhengkeli bystudying of acute toxicity, chronic toxicity and impact on sub-target animals for oral administration.Methods:1) Acute toxicity test:40clean grade ICR mice about20g were evenly divided into test andcontrol group, were fed every4hours with0.6mL the greatest concentration(1.3g·mL-1) of dissolveddrugs and distilled water for3times and observed for14days after administration. Body weightsbefore and after administration of the first dose on day7and14were recorded. After the test, mice werekilled for observation of pathological changes in the heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney and brain;2)Sub-chronic toxicity test:80clean grade SD rats about200g were evenly divided into four groups, andfed with0,0.1,4.875and9.75g·kg BW-1dose of the drug, administered volume of0.75mL·100gBW-1. Body weight were observed28days after treatment continuously and recorded every week.Blood were collected after the test for detection of haematology indicators and blood chemistryindicators. Heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney were collected after autopsy for pathological examination;3)Target animal safety test:120SPF grade white feather plume chicken about35g were evenly dividedinto4groups and fed with0,0.05,0.25and0.5g·kg BW-1dose administered separately mixed in dailydrink. Body weights were recorded every week for4weeks after treatment continually. Then,10chicken were selected randomly from each group and taken the jugular vein blood for leukocyte countand blood chemistry indicators detection in the end of the1st,2nd,3rdweek. Heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney were collected after autopsy for pathological examination. Results:1) Acute toxicity test: Duringthe test period, there was no abnormal appearance occurred in the experimental group of mice; Micedid’t die after administration; There was no significant difference in the body weight of mice between the experimental group and the control group. There was no significant gross lesions in heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney and histopathological examination also showed no abnormalities;2) Sub-chronictoxicity test: During the test period, there were no obvious abnormalities in rat behavior, hematologyand blood biochemical parameters. There was no significant gross lesions and histopathological changeoccurred on heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney;3) Target animal safety test: During the test period, therewere no obvious abnormalities on Animal body condition, behavior, excretions, leukocyte count andblood biochemistry indicators detection; There were no significant gross lesions and histologicalchanges on the heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney. Conclusions: It is safe and feasible to useYiqifuzhengkeli to enhance chicken’s immunity on livestock industry.
