Cyclocarya paliurus(Batal.)Iljinskaja as a species endemic to China, Its blade has a wealth of effective active ingredient, it has a high development value. Paliurus was widely distributed and had abundant variations. This study analyzed the phenotypic diversity of paliurus in Jiulian moutain and Xiushui. Phenotypic traits type of obvious classification characteristics were determined and comparative analysis of flavonoids and polysaccharide content. The main results were as follows:1.The results by investigation of phenotypic traits of paliurus showed that: number of Paliurus’ leaflets was ranging from 6 to12. Leaves had two different color between green and red-brown. Bark crack was cracking into two or not. Male and female differentiation types of plants were divided into female plants, male plants and hermaphrodite. Two species of paliurus had rich intraspecific differences from traits by number of leaflets, the color of leaf, bark fission pattern, male and female differentiation, and fruit diameter, which could be classified as paliurus’ characters. The average coefficient of variation of Xiushui provenance was less than Jiulianshan Provenance. The descending traits of the nine comprehensive coefficient of variability were: Male and female differentiation> color of leaf > fruit diameter> bark cracks> number of leaflets> primary branches> DBH> branch corner> height of tree.2. The content of total flavonoid in paliurus leaves had significant influence among provenances. Provenance of Jiulian mountain was better than provenance of Xiushu. Different types of fruit diameter level had not significant influence on Total Flavonoids of paliurus leaves. There were significant differences of the content of total flavonoid between different types of other traits in leaves. The content of total flavonoid in the male plant leaves was higher than female plants and monoecious, in Red-brown leaves higer than the green leaves. When number of leaflet leaf was seven and nigh, The content of total flavonoid was the highest, piece of bark without breaking higher than the bark crack. On flavonoids in paliurus, the blades of two provenances with male plants, red-brown leaves, leaflets number being seven and nigh, not cracked were the best, the most appropriate picking time was in June.3. There was a big difference of polysaccharide between different provenances of paliurus. Provenance of Xiushu was better than provenance of Jiulian mountain. There were large differences between phenotypic traits on polysaccharide in Paliurus’ leaves. Except lobular type of paliurus’ Leaves, the polysaccharide on male and female differentiation, color of leaf, bark, fruit diameter between the level types had reached a significant level, as follows: male plants was higher than other types of male and female differentiation, red-brown leaves was higher than green leaves, bark without breaking was higher than the crack, small fruit diameter was higher than the larger.Polysaccharide as paliurus’ s main active ingredient, preferred phenotypic traits of provenance of Jiulian moutain was monoecious plants with green leaves, leaflets number being seven and nigh, the bark without cracking, small fruit. Preferred phenotypic traits of provenance of Xiushui was male plants with red-brown leaves, leaflets number being seven and nigh, the bark without cracking, small fruit diameter. The appropriate picking time of two kinds of sources was May, July.4. In terms of total flavonoids in leaves by two kinds of Paliurus’ sources, provenance of Jiulian mountain was better than provenance of Xiushu. However, for the polysaccharide, Provenance of Xiushu was better than provenance of Jiulian mountain. Combining total flavonoids and polysaccharides in different phenotypic traits of different provenances found that paliurus with male plants, bark without cracking, leaflets number being seven and nigh, small fruit diameter had the highest content.
